We’re proud to announce that Kasseus Henry (Year 13) has won the 2025 Great South Vocational Excellence Award! A huge congratulations also to Cooper Jefcoate (Year 12), who received a Highly Commended Award for his achievements.
The Inaugural Great South Vocation Excellence award was almost a clean sweep for Southland Boys’ High School with Kasseus Henry (year 13) taking out the top prize and Cooper Jefcoate (year 12) being highly commended.

Kasseus Henry has won the inaugural Great South Vocational Excellence Award which has a value of $3000. The award celebrates exceptional achievement in vocational education, recognising a student who demonstrates initiative, leadership, and a strong commitment to their chosen pathway. Kasseus impressed the selection panel with his dedication and positive impact he’s made in both his learning and work-based environments.

Cooper Jefcoate was also recognised at the Vocational Excellence Awards winning the NZAS Highly Commended award. Which has a value of $500. This award highlights Cooper’s strong engagement in vocational learning and the positive impression he’s made through his practical work and attitude.
Overall these awards recognise Southland’s top vocational students, nominated by their schools and selected by an industry-based panel. They celebrate outstanding achievement in vocational education, recognising students who show initiative, leadership, and a strong commitment to their chosen pathway.
