Peter Devery and Casey Thompson have recently returned from a trip of a lifetime to British Columbia, Canada with The National Youth Pipe Band of New Zealand.
37 band members flew to Vancouver and travelled to Penticton to compete in the Penticton Highland Games. Peter competed in the Grade 2 Solo Snare Drumming section and won! The band also competed in the Grade 2 section winning both The Set and The Medley, winning Grade 2 overall.
The band then travelled to Silver Star Mountain Resort to join in ‘Piping Hot Summer Drummer’, one of the biggest piping and drumming summer schools in the world. After five nights at Silver Star Mountain the band made trip back to Vancouver for a couple of days of sight seeing and shopping.
Peter would like to thank the Southland Community Trust, The Tuatapere Lions Club and family and friends for their generous support of his trip to Canada - he couldn’t have done it without you!
